Travis Kelce Cartier Santos: How the Couple’s Gold Watch Habit Is Reshaping the Market

Travis Kelce’s Cartier Santos choice at Arrowhead Stadium before a pregame matchup against the Rams has confirmed what watch dealers have suspected for months: the Santos is now firmly the house watch of the Kelce-Swift household, and its pull on the market is measurable in numbers that would make any brand manager weep with relief.

The Travis Kelce Cartier Santos: What He’s Actually Wearing

Kelce, Kansas City Chiefs tight end, arrived wearing a Santos de Cartier in 18K yellow gold, and it is not a subtle piece. The case measures 39.7mm in diameter but sits at just 9.08mm thick, giving it a dressy, almost architectural feel despite its larger footprint. The bezel is riveted, the crown is eight-sided cabochon, and the bracelet screws echo the bezel’s riveted motif across the wrist.

What sets his version apart is the skeletonized dial. On the Cartier calibre 9612 MC, sections of the movement have been removed so the hand-wound mechanism is visible from the front. The bridges of the movement are shaped to form the classic Cartier Roman-numeral dial indices, so the architecture of the watch is its own decoration. It is a technically demanding execution, and it reads clearly even from a stadium seat. The price of entry: $77,000, which includes a second matte-grey alligator leather strap alongside the gold bracelet.

The Swift Effect on Santos Sales: What the Data Shows

Taylor Swift’s own Santos choice, the gold Santos Demoiselle, has already done considerable damage to secondary-market stock levels. The Santos Demoiselle is an elegant variation on the same lineage: both watches pay homage to Brazilian-French aviator Alberto Santos-Dumont and share the collection’s signature riveted bezel and distinctive case geometry, though the Demoiselle runs noticeably smaller and more refined.

According to Barrington Watch Winders, Chrono24, the world’s largest marketplace for luxury watches, recorded a surge of up to 2,000 per cent in searches for the Santos Demoiselle within just two days of her engagement announcement. Stock of gold references disappeared from physical boutiques and online retailers almost simultaneously.

The secondary market followed hard. Luxury Watches Blog reports that dealers holding discontinued Santos Demoiselle models saw premiums spike temporarily by 20 to 30 per cent. The same source describes the engagement announcement as the most impactful brand moment in luxury watches that year. For context, Cartier is already the second-largest Swiss watchmaker by revenue after Rolex, so it is not as though the brand was short of momentum. The Swift effect simply accelerated it.

Her influence has evidently operated at closer range, too. Kelce’s Santos de Cartier shares the same ancestral DNA as his wife’s Demoiselle but is built for a larger wrist and a sportier sensibility. The skeletonization and the bold gold bracelet push it firmly into statement territory, the kind of watch that does not disappear under a sleeve.

A Collection That Has Found Its Moment

The Santos’s current run did not arrive overnight. Cartier added several new complicated pieces to the Santos collection in 2024, which sharpened collectors’ attention and drew the horologically serious crowd alongside the fashion-adjacent audience the collection had already captured. The original Santos was designed for its namesake male aviator, but the line now spans a wide enough range that it genuinely suits both ends of the style spectrum: the more pared-down Santos-Dumont at one end, the sportier Santos de Cartier at the other.

That breadth matters. With references available in steel or gold, large or small, plain or skeletonized, the collection absorbs interest from multiple directions at once. When a single public figure pulls search volumes by thousands of per cent in 48 hours, a deep roster of references keeps that interest from collapsing the moment one specific model sells out.

For anyone priced out of the $77,000 gold skeleton or the discontinued Demoiselle, the Santos line still has entry points in steel at considerably lower cost. The market disruption Swift and Kelce have created is real, but the collection’s range means there is still a Santos out there for the serious buyer willing to do the research. Demand at the top of the gold market is fierce, with those 20 to 30 per cent premiums on discontinued references showing no immediate sign of fully deflating.
